         What is Hyclass?

"Hyclass" (version 1.0) is a memory resident and hot-key
accessible hypertext program that can be run from any 8088 PC
or above. Almost all files in this network are clean ASCII
text files. Hyclass may be accessed while the user is working
         in other programs.

         Subject Matter of Hyclass

The subject matter of this hypertext network would primarily
concern catalog librarians in need of easy access to the
Library of Congress (LC) classifications, or "call numbers,"
assigned to computer- and software-related materials of all
         kinds.
         Use of Hyclass

The primary use of Hyclass, as mentioned above, is EASY and
near instant access to call number information in the
computer knowledge domain. With very little practice and
effort, users can locate call numbers appropriate to his or
         her cataloging needs.

This network is convenient especially because it can be
loaded into memory before going on-line to use cataloging
         software.

         How to Use Hyclass

When cataloging items, users may instantly hot key into
Hyclass and browse-search to the call numbers appropriate to
the class number needs of the cataloger. Once a class number
is identified, users should record it, exit from Hyclass, and
enter the number into the appropriate field of the catalog
software used. Almost all screens containing class number
information lists cross-referenced links to class numbers
related to information associated to that appearing on the
screen. These links appear either at the last screen of a
file that you invoked or in the body of the text.
For catalogers who assign LC class numbers to computer-related
items, this network should reduce or eliminate reliance on
         paper lists of class numbers.

NOTE - See the "help.txt" file for instructions on how to
load the program, navigate the network, etc.

Is the Information in Hyclass Complete?

The great majority of computer-related class numbers are
included in Hyclass. Due to additions and changes of LC rules
and interpretations, however, some recent items may be
absent. This is especially true about computer-related items,
since information in this knowledge domain changes as quickly
as information in many other technical knowledge domains. We
will update Hyclass from time to time, however, as time and
the need for additions warrant it. Please feel free to call
or write me on suggestions for changes or improvements of
         Hyclass.

Some catalogers may notice additions and modifications of
class numbers pertaining to CASE-related topics. These are
not LC authorized modifications, and were made by us to serve
the unique needs of the library collection of James Martin
         Associates, Inc.

Are there Restrictions in using Hyclass?

Very few. Version 1.0 of this network is NOT to be sold by
any means for any purpose unless permission is granted from
the author of the hypertext network, Clifford Urr. Hyclass
may be freely distributed, however. The source code of the
.exe files of Hyclass cannot be changed for any purpose.

         Disclaimer

Neither Clifford Urr nor James Martin Associates are
responsible for the fitness of Hyclass, nor for the accuracy
of the information contained in program files, and neither is
liable in any way for damage to machines or other software or
for lost computer time as a result of using Hyclass. Please
be assured, however, that we have never encountered a single
case of damage to a machine or other software, and it is
extremely unlikely that you will encounter any serious
         problems with this program.
