TrayDay v6.21, for Windows 95, NT4 or later
          (c) MJMSoft Design Limited, 1996-1999

(see end of this readme.txt for version history)

DESCRIPTION
===========
TrayDay - date, calendar and counter utility for the Windows 95, 98
or NT 4 tray.

TrayDay places an icon showing the date (day of the month) in the
system tray (the part of the taskbar which includes the clock). The
icon resembles a page of a "tear-off" calendar.

You can therefore see the date at a glance - often quicker and easier
than resting your mouse over the clock, searching for an "Insert Date"
menu, or having to reach for your diary. Move the mouse over the icon
and the day of the week will appear; you can also have a Millennium day
countdown in the Tooltip, the Julian Day number, and the "Internet
Time" as defined by Swatch.

Left-click the icon and a pop-up menu appears showing the date in
various formats - including up to ten user defined formats. Click one
and it will automatically be inserted into your application (or copied
to the clipboard, depending on the option checked in the right-click
menu). You can select your favorite date format to be available by
double-clicking the TrayDay icon.

The user formats can include the date, time, and counters -
particularly useful for date-stamping messages or files.

TrayDay also has a calendar option; you can choose to have the monthly
calendar "on top" all the time for quick reference. Navigate months and
years using the mouse or keyboard - or the Microsoft IntelliMouse
wheel - and copy any date to the clipboard in the format of your
choice. The calendar shows Sunday as first day of the week, but this
can be changed to Monday in the Settings dialog. You can choose to have
Saturdays or Sundays (or both) displayed in red on the calendar.

To display the calendar, left-click the TrayDay icon and select Show
Calendar. Or start TrayDay with "/c" in the command line. Note that
TrayDay remembers the window position and whether the calendar is
displayed from one session to the next.

When the calendar is displayed, an extra icon, which looks like a small
calendar, appears in the tray. If the calendar has been lost behind
other windows, click this icon to bring it back to the top. This icon
is not displayed (because not necessary) if "on top" is selected.
Alternatively you can choose to have a hotkey, or a left double-click
on the TrayDay icon, show and hide the calendar.

To move from month to month or year to year refer to the following
list. Note that the calendar needs to be the active window if the
keyboard or IntelliMouse wheel is to be used.

Clicking [<], pressing left cursor key, or rolling the IntelliMouse
wheel away from you, moves back a month.

Clicking [<<], pressing up cursor key or "Page Up", or rolling the
IntelliMouse wheel away from you with Ctrl key down, moves back a
  year.

Clicking [], pressing "Home" key, or clicking the IntelliMouse wheel
with the mouse pointer over the calendar, goes to the current month.

Clicking [>>], pressing down cursor key or "Page Down", or rolling
the IntelliMouse wheel towards you with Ctrl key down, moves forward
  a year.

Clicking [>], pressing right cursor key, or rolling the IntelliMouse
wheel towards you, moves forwards a month.

Clicking [T], pressing "t", or selecting appropriate menu items
switches "on top" on or off.

For fastest navigation, press and hold the up/down cursor key or "Page
Up/Down" to move quickly through the years.

To close the calendar (without exiting from TrayDay) click the close
button on the title bar, press "Esc" when the calendar is the active
window, or select Hide calendar from the TrayDay left-click menu or
calendar right-click menu. Alternatively, if a left double-click is set
to toggle the calendar on and off, double-click the tray icon to close
the calendar.

The TrayDay right-click menu shows the various items used to configure
TrayDay, and Exit. Selecting Settings brings up a tabbed dialog box
which lets you choose different tray icons, define user formats,
set the first day of the week to Sunday or Monday for the calendar,
select what will be displayed on the tooltip which appears when the
mouse cursor is moved over the TrayDay icon - and whether to reset any
counters at midnight and startup.

By placing a shortcut to TrayDay.exe in your startup folder, you can
have the date always available.

See Help (run TrayDay, right-click the icon in the tray and select
"Help...") for detailed instructions. Also see context-sensitive help
in the Options dialog box - click [?] on the title bar, then the area
of the box you require help for.

** When a date is being inserted (typed) into an application, you
can stop it by clicking the TrayDay icon. **

VERSION HISTORY FROM 6.1
========================
6.21 Fix of problem whereby the day countdown of the evaluation
period could, under certain circumstances, be advanced twice
        in a day.

Millennium countdown display in the tooltip changed at
midnight GMT, not user's local time. Now fixed.

In certain circumstances, if Windows taskbar located at top of
screen, calendar would not keep its previous position when
        TrayDay was restarted; fixed.

If a user date format contained an automatic incrementing
counter, this would be incremented on typing or pasting any
user format. Fixed to only increment when format containing
        the counter is used.

Calendar would sometimes not display month and day letters if
TrayDay started with /c option in the command line - fixed.

6.2 Old "Options" dialog changed to a tabbed "Settings" dialog.
Included in the Settings dialog is a User Format tab, allowing
you to organize your list of user formats in a way previously
not possible, and giving a "User format helper" to make it
easier to define or edit a user format.

Added hotkey support for opening the left-click menu. This can
be set in Settings/Options, and allows access to TrayDay
menus, dialogs and date insertion without using the mouse.

Added hotkey support duplicating the action of a left double-
click on the icon - now called the "default action". This
means you can set a combination of keys which will show or
hide the calendar, or insert the date directly - without
having to make a menu selection.

The "double-click icon to insert a date" feature, which broke
in version 6.15, has been fixed. And the option to use a
double-click to toggle the calendar on and off has been added.

Julian Day number and Millennium day countdown features added,
so that you can have the Julian Day number, Modified Julian
Day number, and/or day countdowns to January 1 2000 or 2001
displayed as a tooltip for the current date, or by left-
clicking any date on the calendar.

The Internet Time, as defined by Swatch, can also be
displayed in the tooltip if required.

"Shift icon" features are now available during the evaluation
        period.

6.15 Calendar now displays correctly if your dialog boxes are set
to a color other than grey.

Change in the way in which registration information is stored.

Fix of bug relating to the Reset counters setting, and fix of
problem in the display of the user date format in the Options
        dialog.

6.14 Maintenance update.

6.1c Option added to have Saturdays or Sundays (or both) displayed
        in red on the calendar.

Minor "cosmetic" improvements to the tear-off-page style icons
        for dates 20 and 22 to 30.

6.1b On the calendar, some non-English language users had day
letters and months appear in English. Now fixed to display
        in the user's own language.

Fix of bug whereby the calendar displayed dates incorrectly
from day of change to daylight savings, to the end of the
        month in which it occurred.

6.1a Bug affecting regular shifting of the icon fixed.

6.1 Calendar feature added.
