Thanks for the reply, Horace,

When I opened the box nothing jumped out at me looking like a
button? battery, but I wasn't looking for one either. There has
to be a second battery someplace doesn't there! Amazing that _it_
is still going strong.

Any comments about using vehicle 12vdc into the power connector
which currently is supplied 16vdc from the wall? If I could get a
replacement battery shell (or get an old battery open without
serious damage) I could feed the (perhaps conditioned) vehicle
12vdc directly to the main battery terminals.

Any recommendations on replacement battery sources? $82 for an
~11 cu.in. volume of 12V, 1.4Ah power would make my car very very
jealous.

 Thanks again, Bill

 >> There probably was an adapter that made possible operation
from a vehicle battery; dunno where or whether you could find one
now. The computer probably has a small disk battery to retain
configuration memory. A '286 with proper software 'could' use
memory between 640k and 1M _if_ such memory were present; it
isn't always there for a computer intended for having 640k, and
it might not be possible to add it. <<

I don't know enough about that computer to advise on using 12vdc
directly to the computer power connector. You might check
magazines for third party suppliers, who often have batteries at
reduced prices.
