GAMES AND UTILITIES FOR THE HP48 BY LILIAN PIGALLIO

Once again, a ton of goodies from France... with sparse
documentation!

it's been a long time since my 2 years of high school
French). [comments in brackets]

        Ŀ
GAMES FOR THE HP48 by Lilian Pigallio

These games are my first creations on the HP48, they are
all programmed in RPL (the language understood by the
machine). [System RPL]

This directory includes several files: the GAMES (CASTEL
JACKPOT ASTERIX PYRAMID ARKANOID ENDURO) and some
routines used by the games.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL THE GAMES IN THE HP48?

1) Create a directory 'JEUX' in the HOME directory.
2) Download 'CD' from disk into the HOME directory.
3) Download 'GAME' and 'PLAY' from disk into the JEUX
   directory.
4) Download the desired games into JEUX.
5) Type CD to obtain the menu of installed games.

Late Addition: RUNWAY2, a nifty race car game.

[Note about CASTEL: Like a mini Zork. Move with the
arrow keys, and use A-E to take and use items:

A: TAKE
B: LAMP
C: KEY
D: ROPE
E: CROSS

You can use A any time, but you can only use the lamp
once you've found and taken it, and the same with the
other items. Unlcear is the fact that you can use the
down-arrow key to climb back down the rope. -jkh-]

Also, mixed into these files, are some utilities:

           Ŀ
            HP UTILITIES by Lilian Pigallio

This directory contains several programs in [system] RPL
and some in assembler:

VISU3.31 can show any object: graphics objects are
scrolled [see SCROLL.DOC on this disk for
further information -jkh-], others are turned
into strings before being filed; the program
takes the strings which are too long in 22
columns automatically with the option of
formatting ordinary text of 80 columns. Keys
used are in the menu and if prefixed by
blue-shift they go the extremes [top, bottom,
           left, right] of the object.  [Note: S/SX only;
it seems to hang the G/GX. -jkh-]

ARBRE directory tree of machine contents.

CONTRAST evaluation and adjustment of contrast
numerically. Keys used: right and left arrows
to change contrast Backarrow to exit

INSTAL installation of TELEPHONE DIRECTORY with
required password, ... Keys used are in the
           menu.

[S/SX only! Crashes the G/GX. -jkh-]

After 'Runway 2' and the 'Diamond Mine' here is my third
game for HP48 written in assembler. It required a whole
summers work but I think that it is the richest game
out of all the game that I have written:

The sources for the complete version with ABOUT.ICE and
  KEYS.ICE:
    69K of assembler code
    2K of user-RPL code
20K of graphics (ordinary GROBs, 4COLORS, sprites...)
    12K of arrays
    4K of text

As with my previous games this one is in directory
format: posessors of HP48s seem to prefer this to
  libraries.

This game comes in a 'KIT' in order to adapt to all HP
  configurations (without extensions, 32K & 128K memory
  cards...)

1) LOAD one of the two ICE.ENT (full version, 20K) or
ICE.RED (reduced version, 16K). You may already play
     but still read the following:

2) In your new directory, load the ICE.KEYS file. Il will
allow you to choose the keys used to control the ice
cube. Once you have made your choice you may erase
ICE.KEYS because the changes will have been saved.

3) LOAD the file ABOUT.ICE which explains the history of
the game and other useful info in French or in
English (Keys A and B from the menu). You can erase
this file in order to free some memory.

After having installed the game you will still need 9.5K
of memory to play. If you don't have enough left erase
ABOUT.ICE after having read it and KEYS.ICE after
  having chosen your keys.

So that the 4COLORS graphics display correctly, do not
use the game in presence of strong lighting.

The story: Once upon a time there was a tiny icecube
navigating around the artic in search of energy pills
("pawns"), but while approaching an island populated by
giant snake-like monsters, it was captured. The icecube
was put in prison and it's up to you to guide it through
the islands in order to collect three hundred energy
pills while escaping from the monsters! But be careful:
your time is rapidly running out!

Scroll speed is adjustable with the 'plus' and 'minus'
keys. The scroll can be halted with 'E' from the menu or
stopped with 'F' from the menu. Default key settings for
the game are the arrows for direction and 'ENTER' to
create an explosion. 'DEL' for pause and BACKSPACE to
quit. As for the indicators: ALERT when you have some
dynamite , BUSY if there's less than twenty seconds
left, and TRANSMITTING if all the 'pawns' have been
eaten.

As you move, the spaces you have passed turn black
on the picture. At the top of the screen you can see the
name of the level and at the base the number of icecubes
left. If the continue option appears you can resume the
game from the level that you stopped at with a new
icecube but without the dynamite. Just in case you manage
to pass the eleven levels there is a super level waiting
for you. What's more, every thousand points you will
receive an extra icecube. Good luck!

Ŀ

WARNING this game needs RFU which comes with it.
 COPY RFU INTO HOME DIRECTORY

For transmission of the game from a HP48, change to
'binary' mode and TRANSFER THE DIRECTORY containing
 the game.

[Is this a Boulder Dash Construction Set? Or something
 for MINEUR.REP? I dunno; I can't read French. -jkh-]

Enfin si vous pensez avoir cr d'intresants tableaux ,
alors faites moi les parvenir par courier :

Hello hp'users ,this year will be good for the players
on hp 48 I just put this game for you. I am French
and the game is also in French ... and instead of a
long speech , I just give you some informations about
    my game :

          - it is a race ,that is OK

          - there are 2 versions:

RUNWAY2.RED: the small ( 6K ) but it has only
one track it need 11 K free; and

            RUNWAY2.ENT, the entire (14.6 K) but it has 7
tracks, music,4 cars and more in the 2 track
            ... it need 13 k free

          - in the race the commands are
               * right-lefth to turn
               * PRG to accelerate
               * STO to brake
               * DROP (back-arrow) to stop

N.B. : * You can have unlimited credits for RUNWAY2.ENT,
just loading RUNWAY2.TR in the game's
           directory and run it.

Excuse me for my mistakes in english, I have never
 studied it.
