SYNOPSIS:

WPKEYS is implemented as a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) utility. It
allows the user to select characters from the WordPerfect character sets and
designate a standard keystroke to create the character. (Two full keyboards
can be active, in addition to the normal keyboard.)

This program is FREEWARE. You may pass this program along provided:

     - No fee is charged, other than a resonable fee for disk duplication
     - This README file accompanies the program unaltered

    Contents:

        - Using KEYSETUP.EXE

        - Using WPKEYS.COM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using KEYSETUP.EXE

KEYSETUP is a utility that will generate the WPKEYS.COM file and allow
the user to select characters from the WordPerfect 5.1 character sets to be
accessed by an alternate keyboard. The program will allow for two alternate
keyboards to be active at the same time as the normal keyboard. The alternate
keyboards are accessed by pressing the (+) or (-) keys on the numeric keypad.
Pressing one of these hot keys will toggle the keyboard to an alternate for
the next keystroke only. After making the next keystroke (SHIFT or normal),
the keyboard will revert back to its normal operating mode.

KEYSETUP will start by creating a WPKEYS.COM file if one is not in the
current directory. If WPKEYS.COM is in the current directory, then KEYSETUP
will allow the user to edit the current character selections.

The format of the entries are as follows:

        XX,YYY where

XX is the character set and YYY is the character number

Editing Keys:

<TAB> and <SHIFT/TAB> Change Column

UpArrow and DownArrow Change Row

                <ESC> Exit program without saving

<F7> Exit program and Save changes

                 <F4> Toggle AUTOSELECT on/off

AUTOSELECT Companion:

Pressing <F4> will toggle on/off the selection of the companion character
to the selected character. If an UPPERCASE character from the first character
set is selected to be place on a key, the lowercase companion will be placed
on the lowercase of the same key. AUTOSELECT will also place an UPPERCASE
character on the key if a lowercase character is specified.

(NOTE: The program does not prevent the user from placing UPPERCASE
characters on lowercase keys...and therefore, automatically
placing lowercase characters on the SHIFT/key combination.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using WPKEYS.COM

Load WPKEYS.COM before starting WordPerfect 5.1. This may be done in a batch
file used to start WordPerfect, the AUTOEXEC.BAT or from the command line.

The program will turn off the NumLock as it requires the use of the (+) and
(-) keys on the numeric keypad in the command mode.

After starting WordPerfect 5.1, pressing the (+) or (-) key on the numeric
keypad followed by the alphanumeric key that corresponds to the desired
character will generate that character. This is valid for only the next
keystroke. The keyboard is then returned to normal.

The Screen Up/Screen Down features of the (+) and (-) keys on the
numeric keypad are still available by pressing the desired key
twice.
