Franklin Planner System for HP200LX - Version 1.0
-------------------------------------------------

I use my HP200LX with my Franklin Planner. In an attempt to shift more
of this time management system to the HP200LX, I created FRANKLIN.GDB
and VALUES.NDB. The linking feature of BUDDY helps greatly with this
system.

You need to understand how a Franklin Planner works in order to fully
understand what I have done. I will briefly mention the
concept of the Franklin Planner but you should refer to other sources
for more information.

Basically, each of us has certain values. We have goals that support
these values. We perform tasks to achieve the goals. A daily planner
documents these tasks that need to be done. I translated this to the
HP200LX as follows:

        VALUES   =  VALUES.NDB
          |             |
        GOALS    =  FRANKLIN.GDB
          |             |
        TASKS    =  APPT.ADB

I put my values in VALUES.NDB. The title of each note is the value and
the category is the link I use when I am working with the FRANKLIN.GDB
database. The FRANKLIN.GDB database has TASK field, GOAL category and VALUES
checkboxes as well as other fields that help to determine status,
priority, scheduled date, etc. I enter tasks to be performed in the
future here. When I am ready to assign the task to a specific day, I use
the BUDDY Fn+T feature while the cursor is on the TASK in the
FRANKLIN.GDB database. BUDDY puts the task name as a TODO item in
Appointment Book and lets you specify the day and priority (if the task
is better suited to be an appointment, use Fn+A). If I am in the
Appointment Book, I use the BUDDY Fn+D feature link back to the task in
FRANKLIN.GDB where I can see the GOAL category and VALUES that the task
supports. NOTE: all of these BUDDY features require that the last
notebook file loaded was VALUES.NDB and the last database file loaded
was FRANKLIN.GDB.

I occasionally open VALUES.NDB to see the values statements that I have
written that correspond to the values checked for a given TASK. I have
not developed a good macro or made use of BUDDY to simply this
procedure. I only open VALUES.NDB to refocus on what I think is
important to me.

FRANKLIN.GDB also has subsets which can show completed tasks, tasks
meeting certain type of goals, and task that have yet to be scheduled.
I would appreciate help in improving this system and I hope that it is
of some use. You can E-MAIL at 76601.1163@compuserve.com.
