Janet and Steve are deciding whether to vote in favor of granting Kevin tenure.

Janet: "I'm planning on voting for Kevin. He has published six times since we hired him, he is great with the students and he always does more than his share of the work around here. So I think he is right when he says he deserves tenure."
Steve: "That is all true, but I was over at his house the other day and I saw something you are not going to like."
Janet: 'What? Has he been stealing equipment from the school, like that other guy we hired a few years ago?"
Steve: "No. I was on my way to the bathroom when I happened to look into his den. I saw several mounted animal heads and two big rifles."
Janet: "So?"
Steve: 'Well, he's obviously not tenure material."
Janet: 'Why?"
Steve: "Well, he's obviously some sort of gun nut. No wonder he's so efficient... the little fascist..."
Janet: "So, you think he is not qualified for tenure just because he owns guns?"
Steve: "Yes."
Janet: "Even though he's never done anything unprofessional?"
Steve: "Yes."Personal AttackCircumstantial Ad HominemAd Hominem tu QuoqueAppeal to AuthorityPersonal Attack: This is the right answer. Steve is rejecting Kevin's claim simply because he dislikes something about Kevin. Steve fails to offer any reason why the mere fact that he thinks Kevin is a gun nut should disqualify Kevin from being tenured.Circumstantial Ad Hominem: This is a wrong answer. Steve is not rejecting Kevin's claim because he thinks Kevin is only making it out of self interest.Ad Hominem Tu Quoque: This is a wrong answer. Steve is not trying to reject Kevin's claim because Kevin claim is inconsistent with some action of Kevin's.Appeal to Authority: This is a wrong answer. Steve is not making any kind of appeal to experts to support his rejection of Kevin's claim.Steve is attacking Kevin, but what about Kevin is being attacked?1
