1. Introduction
===============

Seer is a Server Monitoring Utility. It periodically checks up to thirty
given servers and notifies you when they go offline. It is designed to be
natural to use, and to function transparently while you're working, only
bothering you if one of the servers it is monitoring goes offline.

You can install Seer by running the setup.exe file included in this archive.
Seer also has an uninstall facility that will be placed in the Startup menu
alongside the Seer program item.

Seer is ShareWare, with an evaluation period of 30 days.

Seer can be distributed freely in unregistered form; if you wish to
distribute a registered version of Seer, please contact the author to
discuss pricing.

2. Requirements
===============

Seer requires a Windows 95, 98 or NT machine. If your machine can run any
of those operating systems, it has the necessary minimum requirements to
run Seer, barring the next two conditions.

Seer also requires Winsock 2 or greater, which is standard on Windows 98 and
NT, and can be downloaded for Windows 95 from the Seer downloads page on
our site - http://www.silverdragon.co.za/seer.

Finally, Seer requires that Dialup Networking is installed on the machine
it is running on. This is because Dialup Networking includes the Remote
Access Service API, which Seer uses for some of it's functionality. This
library is installed on almost every Windows installation. The only case
where it might not be there is a machine connected to a LAN or WAN using
an Ethernet link. In that case all that is necessary is the installation
of Dialup Networking from you Windows distribution disk(s). The installation
is quick, small, and should not interfere with your system.

3. Trouble Shooting
===================

If Seer reports that ICMP is not supported by your Winsock, you need to
install Winsock 2 - see section 1 for the address of the Seer page, which
includes a link to a Winsock 2 installation program.

If Seer cannot run because it cannot find any .DLL files, especially
those starting with "ras", then you need to install Dialup Networking
from your Windows installation disk.
