About Ephemera
--------------

Ephemera is a free screen saver for Windows 95 and Windows NT. Ephemera draws
IFS fractals, giving an ever-changing display of complex shapes echoing those
found in nature. Ephemera allows a wide range of configuration, so is possible
to adjust the images produced to suit your own taste. A help file is also
included which explains what IFS's are and how to draw your own.

If you use Ephemera please register (for free) by sending me an e-mail message
or a postcard. Registered users will receive notification of new releases via
e-mail. Any questions, suggestions, comments or bug reports are also most
welcome. My postal address (for postcards) is in the help file.

The following text has been taken from the help file, which also contains
details on configuration, etc.

What's New in V1.2 (released December 1998)
-------------------------------------------

* IFS's can be filtered by their fractal (box-counting) dimension. Two new
default schemes ("Contractions 2" and "Contractions 2&3") have been added
which demonstrate this feature. These two schemes are identical except that
the first draws IFS's with only 2 rules, while the second draws IFS's with
  either 2 or 3 rules.

* Rules can be forced to be contractive.

* Fixed points can be used to start drawing. This helps to draw the IFS's more
  cleanly.

* An information line can be displayed while the screen saver is running.

* Password protection now works on Windows 95.

* Drawing speed has been improved.

* The main configuration dialog has been redesigned.

Installing
----------

Copy EPHEM12.SCR and EPHEM12.HLP into your Windows directory (most likely
C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT). Go the Control Panel, open up the Display or Desktop
options, and select Ephemera from the list of screen savers. Windows 95 will
show the screen saver as Ephem12. On Windows NT it will be shown as
Ephemera V1.2.

Upgrading
---------

Note: All versions of Ephemera can coexist, so it is not necessary to uninstall
older versions first.

Upgrading from V1.1: To uninstall V1.1, first make sure it is not selected as
your screen saver, then delete EPHEM11.SCR and EPHEM11.HLP from your Windows
directory. Ephemera V1.1 and V1.2 share their configuration settings. Note
that when V1.2 is first run it adds the new default schemes ("Contractions 2"
  and "Contractions 2&3").

Upgrading from V1.0: To uninstall V1.0, first make sure it is not selected as
your screen saver, then delete EPHEMERA.SCR and EPHEMERA.HLP from your
Windows directory. If you want you can remove the [Screen Saver.Ephemera]
section from the CONTROL.INI file. Ephemera V1.2 doesn't pick up the settings
  from V1.0.
