MakeTXT filters non-standard ASCII from a file and converts line ends
to the PC form (CR/LF).

This effectively converts any file to plain text: that is, once a file
is processed with MakeTXT, you can load it without any problems into
any word processor, or into Notepad.

------------
INSTALLATION

Copy MakeTXT.exe to some directory in your path. The best way to do
this is to type (from the command prompt):

copy MakeTXT.exe %windir%

It is then recommended that you create a shortcut on your desktop to
the program. Right click the desktop, select New, then select Shortcut.
Type maketxt in the box, press Next, then enter a description such as
"Convert to Text". Click Finish, and the shortcut will appear.

-----
USAGE

Start the program by double-clicking on its icon. You can convert a
file by selecting Convert from the File menu (or CTRL+O as a keyboard
shorcut). Select the file to convert in the first dialog box, then in
the second dialog box, specify the output file (by typing in a file
name). The .txt extension will be added to the file unless you specify
another extension. A message box then appears to tell you that the
conversion is complete.

----------
EXAMPLE #1
Somebody sends you a MS Works document. Unfortunately, your
machine does not have Microsoft Works or any other word processor
that can read that file type. You try to open the file with Notepad
but you just see screen after screen of garbage. Then you start up
MakeTXT, convert the file, and try to open the result in Notepad. After
selecting Word Wrap from the Edit menu, and deleteting a few lines of
garbage at the top and bottom of the file, you have the document!

----------
EXAMPLE #2
You have acquired a UNIX text file, or a text file off of the
internet. When you open it with notepad, you see that the lines just
keep running off of the screen -- an incompatibility between the PC and
UNIX line endings. You then convert the file the MakeTXT, and it looks
normal.
