EzTape v.2.22 (D2F) Readme.txt

Read this file before you use your software. It contains important information
about using the software and the accompanying documentation.

Improved Features of EzTape 2.2x

The following are features that have been added to EzTape since the previous
release:

1. Provides data compression capability, which allows you to store more data
    on tape. You can select the level of data compression you wish to use,
    or select no compression at all.

2. Includes improved batch files for better multivolume support.

3. Supports backup and restore, including bindery files, for Novell NetWare
     286/386.  This includes:

     *     NetWare 286, version 2.2 and earlier
     *     NetWare 386, version 3.11 and earlier
     * DOS shells, version 3.02 and earlier

Restoring Files that were Backed Up with Data Compression

Once you have made backups with EzTape version 2.2x using data compression,
DO NOT attempt to restore those files using an earlier version of EzTape.
EzTape version 2.2x automatically decompresses compressed data upon restore.
However, if you restore compressed files with a version of EzTape previous to
version 2.20, the files will be unreadable; in addition, if you restore a file
with the same name as a file on your hard disk, EzTape will overwrite the file
on your hard disk with an unreadable version.

Selecting and Deselecting Parameter Files From a List of Over 30 Files

If you have created and saved over 30 parameter files and then select or
deselect certain files from the list of parameter files from line 30 on, EzTape
will not update the screen display at the time you select or deselect. To
display any choices you make, use the [pg up] and [pg dn] keys on your keyboard
to move the display up and then down. This will cause EzTape to update the
display.

======================================================================
Creating or Loading a Parameter File that uses Data Compression

When you create or edit a backup parameter file and select a data compression
level, EzTape actually saves the file without specifying the data compression
level. When you execute the parameter file or run the batch file version of
that parameter file, the backup is performed using your default data
compression level. The factory default is 0 (no compression), but it is
possible that you may have changed that default, as described on page 13 of
your EzTape user's manual.

If you want to specify a different level of data compression in the parameter
file than the level you are using as the default level, follow these steps:

1. Create the parameter file normally in EzTape.

2. Exit EzTape and use an editor to view the parameter file. Here is an
     example of a parameter file:

     /N "BACKUP SET" /R /U 1 /M 1 /O 1
     /B /B RHS /Q /S "C:\RULES\*.*"

3. Add a /Z option to the parameter file to specify the data compression
     level, as described on page 104 of your EzTape user's manual. Here is an
     example of the same parameter file with a data compression level
     specified:

     /N "BACKUP SET" /R /U 1 /M 1 /O 1 /Z 1
     /B /B RHS /Q /S "C:\RULES\*.*"

     If your parameter file will back up more than one drive, you must specify
     the data compression level for each drive (or accept the default). For
     example:

     /N "BACKUP SET" /R /U 1 /M 1 /O 1 /Z 1
     /B /B RHS /Q /S "C:\RULES\*.*"
     /N "BACKUP SET2" /R /U 1 /M 1 /O 1 /Z 1
     /B /B RHS /Q /S "D:\SPECS\*.*"

4. Execute the parameter file normally.

If you edit and rewrite the parameter file again from within EzTape at some
future time, you must repeat this procedure if you want to use a data
compression level other than the default.

Using the Verify Option with Certain High Capacity Hard Disks

If you wish to use EzTape's Verify option with a hard disk that allocates disk
space in 8 kilobyte clusters or more, you should set the DOSONLY environment
variable before starting EzTape. Otherwise, you may receive messages stating
"file contents compare error" when no errors exist. See "Using a Nonstandard
Hard Disk" on page 13 of your EzTape User's Manual for instructions on setting
the DOSONLY variable.

======================================================================
Command Line Operations

Page 106 of your EzTape for DOS manual describes initialization options for
use at the command line.

EzTape no longer supports the /E option. In addition, you cannot use the /S
command from the command line. If you want to servo write a tape, you must
enter EzTape and make selections from the Utilities menu.

======================================================================
Accidental Overwrite of EzTest

When you use the "Load a parameter file and backup" option to make a backup
and save a parameter file, do not name the parameter file "EzTest." EzTest is
the name of a file supplied with EzTape which you should not overwrite.

Using EzStart and Lotus Magellan

Lotus Magellan is a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program that conflicts
with EzStart. A TSR program stays resident in memory, even after you quit
the program. This means that if you run Magellan prior to a scheduled
EzStart event, you must reboot your computer (to reinitialize memory) before
EzStart will operate.
